Kevin Durant didn’t mince his words after the Phoenix Suns were trounced by the Denver Nuggets in Game 6, leading to their elimination from the playoffs.

“Yeah, it sucked,” Durant said in the aftermath of the 125-100 blowout loss at home. “It was a bad feeling. It was embarrassing. They came out and hit us in the mouth. We couldn’t recover. You gotta give them credit for being a disciplined team.”

The Nuggets were on top of the Suns since the start, outscoring them 44-26 in the first quarter and then consolidating the lead. Durant ended his season’s last game with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. In addition, he had 4 turnovers.

“It happened pretty fast,” Durant said, speaking about the flow of the game. “They were getting whatever they wanted on the offensive side of the ball. So it’s hard to get going on offense, it’s hard to get going as a team if you give up points, that many points. 44 in the first, 37 in the second, 81 points at the half. That’s tough to get going.”

The Suns were supposed to be bonafide title contenders when they traded for Durant in February, ahead of the trade deadline. And while they did play like champions leading up to the clash against the Nuggets, the side was undone by a team, which by Durant’s own admission, played a lot better.

Kevin Durant On The Suns’ Future: “We Gotta Be Better Next Year”

With their season done, the Suns will have a lengthy offseason to evaluate and plan better. There is no doubt that there are some roster moves in offing, but Devin Booker and Chris Paul, along with Durant, will remain the centerpieces of the team.

“Yeah, if I provide context, it’ll just be looked at as an excuse,” Durant said when asked about the team’s plans. “We just gotta be better next year.”

The Suns have proved that they have the necessary firepower to go the distance, and they can as well if their stars step up to the plate in crunch situations. Will they dominate from the first game in the regular season next edition? Only time will tell.
