- Kristaps Porzingis was slated to participate in the 2023 FIBA World Cup
- The star could now miss the event due to a foot injury
- The decision will be made at the last possible moment
Big man Kristaps Porzingis is one of the best shooting centers in the game, and there is no doubt that he is a unique player. However, one of the things that has consistently plagued Porzingis during his career is injury issues, and it seems as though another one has cropped up recently.
A report from Rupert Fabig revealed that there are concerns Kristaps Porzingis will end up missing the FIBA World Cup due to a foot injury. However, Fabig noted that the decision will be made at the “last moment” regarding whether the big man can play or not.
“According to my information, there are growing concerns that Latvia star Kristaps Porzingis might miss the FIBA World Cup due to injury. Understood it is something with his foot. Staff, himself, and Boston Celtics will wait until the last moment to make a decision.”

There is no doubt that this is a huge blow for the Latvian national team, as Kristaps Porzingis is easily the best player on their roster. The only other NBA player on the team is Davis Bertans, though Rodions Kurucs also has NBA experience.
Hopefully, Kristaps Porzingis can get through this injury quickly. The star had a stellar season with the Washington Wizards last season, averaging 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 38.5% from 3PT range. He was traded to the Boston Celtics this summer, and figures to be a large part of their plans next season.
Kristaps Porzingis Is Ready To Sacrifice To Win
There is no doubt that Kristaps Porzingis is the sort of player that can put up big numbers as the focal point of a franchise. However, on the Boston Celtics, Porzingis will have to play a smaller role. It seems as though that is something he is ready for, according to Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck.
“He is a committed and now seasoned and effective player. He’s a real force. I’m really impressed with his commitment to being part of a winning Celtics team,” Grousbeck said. “… He’s so happy to be here. He’s so ready to shine at this stage of his career. But he sees a team concept, not the KP show… he’s about the team, his teammates, and the banner.”
It remains to be seen how Kristaps Porzingis will do on the Boston Celtics going forward. He is clearly a good fit for the team right now, and perhaps he can take them to the next level.
