- Brandon Ingram was notably included in some Scoot Henderson trade rumors this summer
- The star revealed that the rumors didn’t bother him
- Ingram added that the Pelicans’ front office usually talks to him about the rumors
The New Orleans Pelicans are a team that disappointed relative to expectations, as they finished 9th in the Western Conference and lost in the play-in tournament. As such, there were a lot of trade rumors that surrounded the team this off-season.
One of the more prominent trade rumors involving the Pelicans featured Brandon Ingram or Zion Williamson being traded for point guard Scoot Henderson, who went No. 3 in the 2023 NBA Draft to the Portland Trail Blazers. When speaking to Will Guillory of The Athletic, Brandon Ingram gave an honest take on his inclusion in trade rumors, and it seems as though the star wasn’t particularly concerned about getting moved.
“Most of the time, I’ll hear from the front office when that stuff pops up, and they’ll tell me exactly what’s going on and how to feel about it. Any information that’s out there, they’ll clarify it and tell me if it was true or false… I’m not too into what everybody was putting out there, but none of it bothered me.”
There is no doubt that, ultimately, the best way to approach trades is by being prepared for every eventuality and not worrying too much about it. The New Orleans Pelicans ended up keeping both of their stars, and it seems as though they’re simply going to run it back and hope for better health from their top players.
Brandon Ingram had a good season with the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 24.7 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 5.8 APG while shooting 39.0% from 3PT range. However, he only played 45 games, and hopefully, that number will increase next season.
The Charlotte Hornets Wanted Brandon Ingram For The No. 2 Overall Pick
Though Scoot Henderson ultimately went to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Charlotte Hornets were also in the mix for him as they had the No. 2 overall pick. The Hornets were also in the mix for the Pelicans’ stars in a trade with that pick, and the Hornets notably preferred to land Brandon Ingram over Zion Williamson.
“What I have heard is I don’t know if the Hornets would want Zion. I think who the Hornets want is Brandon Ingram.”
In the end, the Hornets ended up taking Brandon Miller with the No. 2 pick, and the Pelicans stayed put overall. We will see how both teams do next season, and both teams have the potential to make the playoffs or the play-in tournament.
