The Los Angeles Lakers’ assistant coach Phil Handy recently made an appearance at Basketball Con in Manila, Philippines.

Handy talked about a plethora of things during his appearance. He also took questions from fans. One fan asked about his thoughts on the GOAT debate. The Lakers assistant coach gave an interesting answer featuring Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant.

“Handy said that Michael Jordan is the godfather, Kobe Bryant is considered the prodigal son while LeBron James is the chosen one,” Lakers coach revealed, per Lakers beat writer Nicole Ganglani. “Said that if all three were going up against each other, he doesn’t know who would win.”

Handy gave a smart answer to the GOAT debate. It’s somewhat similar to how Shaquille O’Neal ended the debate as well.

But there are a few ways to determine who the real GOAT is between Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant.

If we look at the accolades and awards, Michael Jordan is clearly the GOAT.  We can even take a look at the career comparison between Michael Jordan and LeBron James, he is still the GOAT.

But if we look at longevity and who scored the most points, LeBron James is the greatest player of all time.

Usually, fans and NBA players select Kobe Bryant as their GOAT because they loved his passion for the game, his impressive performances, and his ever-so-famous ‘Mamba Mentality.’

It is really tough to determine who is the real GOAT, and everyone has a different opinion, and that is why the GOAT debate will always be interesting.

Phil Handy Thinks The Los Angeles Lakers Could Have Beaten The Denver Nuggets In The 2023 Playoffs

The Los Angeles Lakers were swept by the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Finals. The Nikola Jokic-led team eventually won the 2023 NBA Finals over the Miami Heat in five games.

Although most believe the Nuggets were simply the best team in the league this season, Handy thinks the Lakers could have beaten them.

“We made the Playoffs, and we just moved in the right direction at the right time, and I also felt like we could’ve beaten Denver,” Handy said. “We kind of slipped up some games, but all things considered, it was a successful season based on how we started.”

At the end of the day, the Lakers couldn’t even win a single game against the Nuggets. Hopefully, they will learn from their mistakes and make the required changes for the 2023-24 NBA season.
