Magic Johnson Says Nobody Will Want To Play Against The Lakers In The Playoffs

Johnson's bold claim also comes with the take that the Lakers need to string up a series of wins.

It’s been a rough season so far for the Los Angeles Lakers, but former franchise legend Magic Johnson still has his faith firm that the team would make the postseason and be a threat once they do.

The Lakers have swapped out a good chunk of their players for major upgrades to address their shooting, that’s heavily dependent on LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Prior to the trade deadline, they added Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Jared Vanderbilt, and Mo Bamba to their ranks.

And the result was seen in their 120-102 blowout win against the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of the All-Star break. This is perhaps one of the reasons behind Johnson’s confidence that the Lakers still have fight left in them even as their playoff window gets narrow by the game. Taking to Twitter, he wrote:

To get into the Playoffs the Lakers have to go into a winning streak. If they get in, nobody will want to play them in the Playoffs.

To get into the Playoffs the Lakers have to go into a winning streak. If they get in, nobody will want to play them in the Playoffs.

Note that Johnson’s claim also comes with the take that the Lakers need to string up wins, something they have been inconsistent with throughout the season. Their superstars aren’t really in the pink of health, but should they continue to be a regular fixture, LA could just sneak into the playoffs.

NBA Fans React To Magic Johnson’s Bold Take About The Lakers’ Playoff Chances

Fans were clearly dishing out mixed opinions on social media when they read Johnson’s take. While some believed cleaning up the roster was a good move, it may have come to a tad too late.

One segment believed he was just stating the obvious and took a dig at the decorated legend.

Magic always…always states the obvious and can you say other than thanks?

Denver needs to start losing right now if they want to have a real shot of dodging the Lakers in the first round.

Translation: “If the Lakers become a good team, they will win games.”

And if they continue the winning streak into the playoffs, they might win the championship! Thanks Earvin “Magic” Johnson!

If they want to win, it’s going to be important for the Lakers to score more points than their opponents. The more they do that, the more games they’ll win If they don’t, those games will be losses

It’s also gonna be important for the lakers to play good enough defence to hold the opposing team to less points than then

This is laughable, they win one game against a team with their best player injured and now “no one wants to face them in the playoffs”

Healthy LeBron and AD is a force to be reckoned with.

Everyone always says that teams don’t want to play the lakers in the playoffs. I honestly don’t think that’s the case. Looking at other play in teams, I think most teams would love a shot at the lakers in the first round

I mean, if we get to the playoffs, we would have a pretty impressive run, and if healthy, the momentum might be on our side…

Safe to say, the Lakers faithful believe that the team still has what it takes to win.

Only time will tell if LA can indeed land another championship and make up for their dismal previous season.
