When it comes to the NBA, every single person who watches the game has bad takes. Even players who play in the league and experienced analysts can get things wrong, and on-one is exempt from that.
Recently, Reddit user Rabid 89 asked other fans about what their worst NBA take was. A lot of fans responded to the question. Some of those takes are flat-out hilarious, and even the poster had a pretty bad take himself, claiming that he was upset that the Celtics took Jayson Tatum, as he thought that Josh Jackson was the next “two-way dominant wing” like Kawhi Leonard.
One fan mentioned that he was “thinking that Jahlil Okafor would be a great NBA talent.”
Another fan stated that he “claimed the Thunder won the Harden for Kevin Martin trade.”
Some fans had some bad takes on trades: “I thought the T-Wolves were idiots for trading away OJ Mayo for Kevin Love. I was wrong”
“I wanted us to trade Steph instead of Monta. I was so mad”, one Warriors fan claimed.
“In the Jrue Holiday trade thread, I said Jrue was only a slight upgrade to Bledsoe”, said a Bucks fan.
Other people had bad takes on certain draft picks: “I said Johnny Flynn was going to be the best PG in a draft that had Steph Curry, James Harden, Jrue Holiday, and Ricky Rubio.”
“Darko Milicic was going to change the league with his outside shooting and complimentary inside game and the Pistons would be a dynasty because of it”, thought one Pistons fan.
There is no doubt that all of these takes are extremely hilarious and clearly wrong, but that just comes with the game. Those same fans also get things right, and it is good to see that fans were able to laugh about their wrong takes together.
It’s Okay To Have Wrong Takes On Basketball In Discussions
Having basketball discussions is one of the more enjoyable things about the game, and there’s no doubt that some wrong takes will be said in the process. Even established analysts like Bill Simmons aren’t infallible with their takes. There are some analysts who even thought Kevin Durant would be a bust.
The key, of course, is to learn from one’s mistakes. The goal is to enjoy basketball and learn at the same time. That leads to more productive discussion in the future, as more people will be coming from a place of knowledge with their statements.
