In the aftermath of an impressive championship run, Warriors swingman Andrew Wiggins is already thinking about what is to come.
In fact, as he told the media after the game, he expects the Warriors to be even better next season, which should be a very scary thought for the rest of the NBA.
“As good as we were this year, I feel like next year we’re going to be even better,” Wiggins said Saturday as the Warriors conducted their season-ending exit interviews. “You know, we still have the older guys, the young guys are only going to get better. JK, I’m expecting him to (take) a huge jump this summer. Moses, Wiseman’s going to be back. So our young guys, they’re going to make us a lot better.”
That’s a pretty perfect summation by Wiggins, who got more relaxed and chattier every day of this postseason, which is another very positive sign about next season for the Warriors. The looser Wiggins got under the harsh spotlight, the better he played, and when he played great, the Warriors were just about unbeatable. Also, he’s still only 27.
With Steph, Klay, and Draymond healthy and active, Golden State will always be somewhat competitive. That core is just too good and way too experienced not to win games frequently.
But the future of the Warriors lies with guys like Wiggins, Poole, James Wiseman, and even Jonathan Kuminga. While it remains to be seen who the Warriors will keep around long term, those guys have what it takes to lead the next era of the franchise.
Either way, don’t expect the Dubs to just tap out. They are 4x champs now and are ready to keep winning with the pieces they have. Andrew Wiggins and his teammates aren’t ready to stop their run now.
