There have been a lot of things said about the relatively recent addition of the play-in tournament in the league. There are some that dislike it, but there are others that love it due to the win-or-go-home format, which makes for some extremely exciting basketball.

The play-in tournament this year was definitely exciting, and there's no doubt that a lot of fans enjoyed how it went. It seems as though there is a possibility of yet another addition to the NBA schedule in the future.

Shams Charania has recently revealed that the NBA is "discussing" the addition of a new in-season tournament that could start as soon as the 2023-24 season. There's no doubt that this would be an amazing addition for the fans, as that would mean extra basketball in the schedule for them to watch:

The NBA is discussing a new In-Season Tournament that would begin as soon as the 2023-24 season, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. With the Play-In Tournament here to stay given its success, concepts are beginning to ramp up on another competitive event.

It remains to be seen if the league does end up enacting this change. There's no doubt that this could turn out well, but at this point, this adjustment to the schedule is obviously still in the "discussions" stage.

A new in-season tournament could definitely help the entertainment factor in the league. We'll see what happens, and perhaps this hypothetical in-season tournament will enjoy the same success as the play-in tournament.
