Paul Pierce Says Celtics Need To Build Around Jayson Tatum And Jaylen Brown Instead Of Separate Them: “I Truly Believe It’s About Putting The Right Pieces Around Your Great Players. They’ve Proven They Can Be All-Stars In This League.”

The Boston Celtics have a terrific duo for the present and the future. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are expected to lead this franchise for many years to come and win a couple of championships for the Greens.

They’ve been close to making it to the Finals in recent years, but they always lack something when trying to reach the biggest series of all. Still, as long as they have Tatum and Brown, the Celtics will always have hope. Then again, they’ll need to build the best team around them to make the Finals and win titles.

Celtics legend Paul Pierce believes the team must keep them together instead of separate them, an idea that many folks think would be beneficial for the 17-time NBA champions. In contrast, Pierce is convinced the front office must take advantage of their two stars and build around them if they want to win it all.

Talking on The Crossover NBA Show, Pierce explained why it was hard for them to get things going earlier in the season.

Via Sports Casting:

“They lost a veteran point guard in Kemba Walker, I think that was a huge loss,” Pierce said. “You’ve got to understand they dealt with COVID issues. They dealt with injuries. And also they have a new coach, a young coach. He’s never been a head coach in the league, implementing a new system, new players, new personalities, and trying to make it work.”

When it comes to their dynamic duo, The Truth is a strong believer that Tatum and Brown are better off together, and the Celtics must work on getting them the right help.

“I never believed that (it’s right to separate to star players),” Pierce said. “I truly believe it’s about putting the right pieces around your great players. They’ve proven they can be All-Stars in this league. In order to win in this league, you have to have star talent around the perimeter. That’s what the Celtics have, and that’s something you need to build around.”

“My theory proves right because when you look at all the top players and all the Finals MVPs year in and year out, who are you looking at?” he asked. “Top-tier perimeter guys like Kawhi Leonard, the Kobe Bryants, the Kevin Durants, the LeBron James’s, these are the guys that lead their teams to championships. You need those type of players. The Celtics have to find a way to build around those guys so they can reach that next level.”

Pierce’s remarks are spot-on. The Celtics have a talented young duo that can do a lot in the future. Jayson Tatum is only 23, while Brown is 25. They still have plenty of room to improve and become superstars in the league.

However, if the C’s don’t take advantage of this and create a well-rounded team to win the championship, one of them (or both) will get tired of doing the most and not seeing results due to the lack of support.

They have something good in their hands, but the front office needs to make the right moves if they aspire to win a championship in the next couple of years.

A couple of weeks ago, Marcus Smart called Tatum and Brown out for not passing the ball. It seems like that worked, as the Celtics have won 7 of their last 10 games since those comments.

The East is stacked right now, and the Celtics aren’t favorites to come out of the conference this season. Still, if they can boost their roster in the next seasons, they will be another juggernaut in the conference.
