The Miami Heat were expected to have a busy offseason even before the 2023 NBA Finals started. The Floridian team has the chance to make some big moves in the summer to have a better chance to compete for the championship.

Now that the season is over, it’s clear that Miami needs another star to compete with the Denver Nuggets and the rest of the teams trying to put their hands on the Larry O’Brien trophy. With Bradley Beal close to joining the Heat, insider Marc Stein reveals that the Heat would prefer to land Damian Lillard instead.

“If that’s how things played out, Miami would surely be at or near the top of Lillard’s list of preferred destinations – with the Heat said to prefer the idea of acquiring Lillard over Beal if they had the choice.

“Miami, at present, does not have that choice. Only Beal is in play,” Stein wrote on his Substack.

Adding Lillard to the roster is certainly an intriguing idea for the Heat, but as of right now, the player hasn’t asked out of the Portland Trail Blazers. Things could change after the 2023 NBA Draft, as Lillard could request a trade if his team ends up drafting Scoot Henderson, Brandon Miller, or any other player with the No. 3 overall pick.

Lillard has stated he’s not interested in any type of rebuild and wants to compete now. The Blazers are ready to back him this summer, but right now, the market doesn’t look that good for them.

Miami Heat Named Finalists In A Bradley Beal Trade

Meanwhile, the Heat are in the race to get Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards. The 2023 Eastern Conference champions are currently competing with the Phoenix Suns to land Beal.

Moreover, the Golden State Warriors could have something to say about this, but as things stand right now, only the Heat and Suns can make this move happen.

Lillard will wait to see how everything unfolds before he makes a final decision on his future. The Blazers are in a complex position now, and they need to move fast and smartly to assemble the best team around their superstar.
