The Golden State Warriors have acquired Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets and Draymond Green made it clear he won’t have to worry too much about adjusting to the team. Following the Warriors’ 143-133 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Chase Center on Sunday, Green was asked how Schroder would fit in with them and delivered an interesting response.

“I don’t think he was necessarily brought here to fit,” Green said. “We play a certain style of basketball that he does not really play. And I don’t think the goal is to get him to play the style of basketball that we play. We need someone that can do the things that he does and so I’m looking forward to us adjusting to him.”

“He’ll have to adjust to some things and he’s a pro, he understands that,” Green continued. “He’s a pro, he understands that. But we have to adjust to him because he’s bringing something that this team needs. To just make him fall in line of what we do, we’d be wasting our time even bringing him here. We need somebody that can do what we necessarily don’t do, and I think that’s what he’ll be for us.”

The Warriors acquired Schroder and a second-round pick by parting with De’Anthony Melton, Reece Beekman, and three second-round picks. He arrives after playing some of the best basketball of his career with the Nets, having averaged 18.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game in 2024-25 while shooting 38.7% from beyond the arc.

As Green pointed out, though, Schroder doesn’t really play the brand of basketball that the Warriors do. The 31-year-old is more of an iso player while they’re all about the motion offense.

For example, Schroder has had 75 isolation possessions in 23 games this season while Stephen Curry, Jonathan Kuminga, and Andrew Wiggins have 67 in total between them. It’s a different brand of basketball but Green says the Warriors will be the ones doing most of the adjusting. The four-time All-Star also revealed that he loves how Schroder carries himself and is looking forward to being his teammate.

“I love the demeanor that he carries himself with,” Green said. “He carried himself like he belongs in every room, at all times and I respect people like that. Looking forward to obviously being teammates, getting to know him better. But I know who he is and what he is, and that’s what’s most important.”

Green wasn’t the only Warriors star to be pleased to hear about Schroder joining the team. Curry also spoke glowingly of the guard after that loss to the Mavericks.

“Excited about the opportunity to play against a guy that you have played against for a long time,” Curry said. “He’s a true competitor. Can create, score, run an offense, or a whole lineup. Excited to see him plug in. A guy that I can play with in the backcourt, can handle a lot of ball-handler responsibilities when I’m off the court.

“Gives us another guy that can attack a defense and on the other side he loves to compete,” Curry continued. “He digs in on the defensive end too. So should be a seamless transition for him. We’ll see how it looks.”

Schroder will play the role Melton was supposed to before he tore his ACL in November. The Warriors, who are now 14-11 on the season, have really felt his absence and it will be interesting to see how much of an impact their new acquisition will make. Schroder is expected to make his debut in their next game against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum on Thursday at 8 PM ET.
