Anthony Davis looks like he is set to have a massive game tonight. During the Los Angeles Lakers‘ road game against the Charlotte Hornets, Anthony Davis outscored the entire Hornets squad, putting up 21 points (9-12 FG), 11 rebounds, and two blocks in 12 minutes. By contrast, the Hornets put up just 19 points as a team.

Davis’ incredible double-double in the first quarter allowed the Lakers to take a 20-point lead to end the first quarter, finishing the first period 39-19. Davis, at the time of this writing, is on the bench, allowing JJ Redick to introduce the second unit alongside LeBron James, allowing the big man to get some rest while trying to maintain their lead.

AD is making an amazing case for himself this season. He has been the Lakers’ best player this season. Even LeBron James has correctly begun deferring to him, as he begins to get slightly older. Davis has been the biggest factor in their 26-18 start to the season. Despite his strong performances this year, the Lakers have lost a lot of winnable games.

For Davis, the reason is simple: The Lakers are missing a center. The former All-Star has been playing out of position at the center position for a few years now. After an interview with Shams Charania, he made his request for a center loud and clear to the Lakers.

It has been reported that both he and LeBron James believe that the Lakers are just one or two pieces away from becoming contenders. For their part, the Lakers have heard his request for a center. But as of now, they haven’t found their man, nor have they begun trade discussions to land a center.

Perhaps tonight’s performance can be the massive push the Lakers front office needs to get the star big man the help he needs in the front court.
