Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo were clearly very excited at the prospect of potentially teaming up with LeBron James on the Heat until he made his free agency decision to join the 76ers.
Subsequently, Bam Adebayo spoke to the media and revealed his reaction to hearing the news that LeBron James will not be taking his talents back to South Beach for a farewell tour.
“There ain’t no disappointment,” Adebayo said Tuesday of James choosing to sign with the 76ers over the Heat. “To me, you should always be happy for a person and their decision. He made a decision where he feels like it’s his best situation to win. And I feel like I’m a good friend of LeBron’s.”
“As I told him in a text message, I’m going to bust his a–,” Adebayo added. “So, it’s going to be an exciting season. I’m excited for the East. We got a whole new turnaround in the East. So, it’s going to be exciting this year.”
LeBron James essentially picked a newer stage over a farewell tour because he reportedly felt that he did not want to hamper the memories that he had already made with those teams. According to Rich Paul, James indicated that he expected it wouldn’t feel the same way to return to a place where he has already won. Hence, he chose against going to the Heat or the Cavaliers.
Adebayo understands that and does not hold it against LeBron James in any way. If anything, in the spirit of healthy competition, he will simply try to remind him which franchise and culture he missed out on when he chose the 76ers over the Heat.
Bam Adebayo was also asked about the altercation with Tyler Herro, but he once again refused to comment on it. The Heat and the 76ers are expected to face each other four times in 2026-27. It will be noteworthy to focus on these two players when the two sides go against one another.
For now, the Heat are next focused on adding elite three-point shooting to support the frontcourt of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. According to Shams Charania, their number one target right now is Klay Thompson, who has also hinted at his desire to take his talents to South Beach.
If the Heat build a solid roster around their frontcourt, then we could be in for a potentially elite playoff series between the two teams.
