The Miami Heat finally ended the Jimmy Butler trade saga by moving the star forward to the Golden State Warriors. In a trade with four teams so far, the Heat managed to land Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and PJ Tucker.

The deal was announced during the Heat’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Fans sitting behind the Heat bench during this road game informed the players that Butler had been traded, even reading out the package to stars like Kevin Love, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Tyler Herro, who found out because of the fans.

There had to be a moment of panic for those players, especially if they were worried about potentially being included in the trade themselves. Josh Richardson was the only other Heat player involved in the deal and was sent to the Detroit Pistons. He was classified NWT (not with team) before the game, probably in anticipation of this trade.

We’ve seen players get traded on the bench in the middle of games before like when the Dallas Mavericks traded Harrison Barnes to the Sacramento Kings, but we avoided a repeat of that situation with any of the Heat players.

The Warriors also play tonight against the Utah Jazz, with all remaining players on the roster getting minutes as Dennis Schroder, Wiggins, Anderson, and Lindy Waters were not in the playing rotation for the game. The trade was announced before tip-off, so whether the players were ready to play or not is unclear.
