The Toronto Raptors are close to finalizing a major trade for their franchise’s future, acquiring New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram in a deal that will include Bruce Brown and potentially more.

This deal is yet to be completed, but Chris Haynes has revealed that the Raptors are in advanced discussions with the Pelicans, separately revealing that Brown will be included in the deal.

“BREAKING: New Orleans Pelicans are in advanced discussions to trade Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors, league sources tell me.”

Shams Charania revealed the full trade details shortly after Haynes broke the news of the trade being at the one-yard line.

Full Trade Details

Toronto Raptors Receive: Brandon Ingram

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, First-Round Pick, Second-Round Pick

This is a pretty big trade, with Ingram averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 18 games this season. He’s had injury troubles but was also being held out as the Pelicans tanked their season amidst widespread injuries to keep him protected.

This is an interesting move for the tanking Raptors that absorb the $36 million expiring contract Ingram is on while also continuing their tank this season. The team is still in rebuild mode but is likely acquiring a piece they hope helps them return to contention next season.

This Raptors team is clearly built around Scottie Barnes, who’s been receiving extended time at point guard this season in Immanuel Quickley’s absence. While this isn’t necessarily their long-term plan for Barnes, they’re trying to create as well-rounded a franchise cornerstone as possible.

The full return is still yet to be revealed, with this deal potentially including multiple teams if required. This story will be updated as more details come out.
