Patrick Beverley stirred the pot when he dared to say he didn’t get to play with LeBron James and Anthony Davis; instead, they were playing with him after he made the 2022 NBA playoffs, and the Lakers couldn’t even get a play-in spot. After a terrible 2021/22 NBA season, everybody is kicking the Lakers, including one of their new players.
While talking to reporters during his first official appearance as a member of the Lakers, Beverley had an incredible response when asked how it felt to play with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, two of the best players in the game right now.
“They’re gonna be playing with me. I made the playoffs last year, they didn’t. It’s a difference,” Beverley said.
Nick Wright Takes Offense With Patrick Beverley’s Comments On LeBron James And Anthony Davis
These remarks from Beverley didn’t sit well with many people around the league. Chris Broussard initially called him out for making those comments, but he wasn’t the only one who attacked Beverley. Nick Wright wasn’t having any of that and took a shot at the point guard, reminding him that LeBron James and Patrick Beverley are two of the best players in NBA history.
Via Sportskeeda:
“He (Patrick Beverley) says, ‘anywhere I go we make the playoffs.’ Fun fact, he was in Houston, they never made it out of Round 2. He then got hurt, they make the conference finals for the first time since Hakeem (Olajuwon) was there.”
“They then traded him, after not making another conference finals for a couple of years, then immediately make the conference finals again. He goes to be Clippers and they’re a tough scrappy team and then they lose Kawhi Leonard, they make the conference finals.””Do you know what Ty Lue’s big adjustment was? He benched Patrick Beverley. And here’s the problem, the lack of self-awareness.”
Wright was really furious and added that his trade value wasn’t that high for the Jazz, so he shouldn’t feel so entitled, especially in front of LeBron and Davis.
“Then the Lakers called them, they’re like, ‘Hey, we have this kid Talen Horton Tucker,’ and the Jazz were like oh the guy who according to the nerdy numbers, player efficiency rating value over replacement player was the second worst player in the entire league to get regular minutes last year?’ They’re like, ‘Yeah, we want to trade him to you.'”
“And that team was like, ‘Oh boy, we’d give you Pat Bev straight up one for one will you do it?’ That’s it. And this f**king guy is saying LeBron James, arguably the greatest player ever, inarguably one of the three greatest players ever, and Anthony Davis, who’s a top 75 guy and a champion, they get to play with me because I made the playoffs last year they didn’t.”
Beverley remains a controversial figure in the NBA, and now that he’s on the Lakers, things will get better for him and worse for his detractors. He’s already starting stuff with his own teammates, and it remains to be seen if his personality will be an issue for the Purple and Gold. At least he made amends with Russell Westbrook, but people are still waiting to see how long their good relationship will last.
