A lot of media members and fans agree that Nikola Jokic is the frontrunner for the MVP award this season. This would make him the first NBA player since Larry Bird to win 3 consecutive MVP awards. Not only is Jokic averaging a triple-double, but he is also leading the Denver Nuggets to the 1st seed in the Western Conference. But some people don’t agree with it.

Nikola Jokic has won 2 MVPs, but he has failed to make it to the NBA Finals so far in his career. His playoff losses haven’t entirely been on him; he’s been forced to play without his second and third-best players the last two seasons. But the fact remains that success has eluded him so far. And Nick Young had called out those wanting to give him a 3rd MVP for that reason, comparing his situation to Russell Westbrook when he was in his prime with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“Why when Russ was avg a triple double 3 straight yrs it was a problem he stat padding but joker do it he can win his 3 rd MVP they do the same stuff every yr have great stats great regular season and get they a** whoop in the playoffs but no criticism.”

This is a pretty wild take from Young, considering that Nikola Jokic has gotten to the Western Conference Finals when his team has been healthy. Russell Westbrook failed to make it out of the first round for years after losing Kevin Durant, even when he had Paul George alongside him. The situations in the playoffs have been vastly different so far. But Jokic will indeed need postseason success this year if he wants to change the narratives around him.

Will The Denver Nuggets Win The Western Conference?

Before the trade deadline, the answer to this question might have been more straightforward. The Denver Nuggets have been the best team in the West so far this season, but the Conference has changed drastically. The Phoenix Suns are stacked with talent after acquiring Kevin Durant, while the Dallas Mavericks have a new superstar duo

The Los Angeles teams got better too. The Clippers made some roster moves and added Russell Westbrook, while the Lakers got much-needed shooting and size around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It’ll be tough for the Nuggets, but they will have the advantage of their home court and the MVP on their team, meaning they should still be aiming to win the West and make it to the NBA Finals.
