The Dallas Mavericks haven't been flying like they might have expected after trading for Kyrie Irving. The mercurial superstar guard won his first game as a Maverick and has already put in some stellar performances. But in his games playing alongside Luka Doncic so far, the team has been unable to secure victories. 

There was a lot of debate across the NBA world after the trade went through about if the Mavericks would be able to make it work with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. Luka has been ball-dominant ever since he broke out as a superstar and questions about fit have haunted the team in their short run with Irving so far. But Zach Lowe says he's seen enough already to know that they can make the Mavericks truly terrifying. 

“They’ve barely worked in tandem, but Irving and Luka Doncic are already providing glimpses of how they amplify each other, and how they could turn the Mavericks’ offense into a more diverse and borderline unguardable machine.”

Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic have put up insane stats together so far. They have scored more than 55 points combined in both games together. And there is no reason to see why that shouldn't continue. They have things to figure out, but Lowe might be spot on about the incredible heights this team can achieve.

There are growing pains for all parties involved when another star comes to a franchise with an established setting and superstar. And role players have to step up too, which they can only do when they're not injured. Luka Doncic explained as much in a recent interview. 

"A lot of people forget our best defender has been out for like 30 games now. But I think when we’re fully healthy we have a dangerous team. Over the break, for me, I just want to get a little healthier and just relax a little bit. Have some rest."

Things will certainly get tighter on the defensive end when Maxi Kleber returns to the starting lineup. And Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are going to adapt to one another's style of play sooner rather than later. So while things make seem a bit gloomy after 3 straight losses, Mavericks fans know that there's not all that much of an issue.
