It has been a rough last few weeks for Ja Morant as he has found himself in trouble for various off-the-court issues.

There were murmurs about whether Nike might consider cutting ties with Ja in light of recent events, but they have now released a statement in support of the troubled star.

The latest Morant controversy came when he showed a gun on his Instagram Live. The NBA announced an investigation into the incident and the Memphis Grizzlies then proceeded to suspend him for at least two games. Ja released a statement where he said he was working on learning better methods of dealing with his stress and overall well-being, which Nike is referring to here. Morant signed with Nike prior to the draft in 2019 and was so highly valued by them, that they released his first signature shoe not too long back. He could have lost it all here, but they are supporting him for now.

It is just a terrible situation all around and one can only hope that Morant comes out of this as a better man. He is too great of a talent, who is averaging 27.1 PPG, 8.2 APG, and 6.0 RPG this season, to let it all potentially go to waste because of all this and needs to get his act together. There are some who are questioning why Nike is standing by him here though, considering they did cut ties with Kyrie Irving due to his controversial comments. It isn’t the exact same situation, as Irving was accused of being an antisemite but Ja has displayed a lot of troubling behavior as well.

DeMarcus Cousins Says Ja Morant’s Situation Shows Why Young Teams Need Veterans

What is so concerning about this situation, is that it was allowed to get to this point. It is highly unlikely Morant just decided to act in this manner a couple of weeks back, which means his teammates and the organization just looked the other way or weren’t able to get through to him.

DeMarcus Cousins says this situation shows why it is important to have real veterans on young teams. He feels every young team should have multiple veterans and maybe this situation could have been avoided if Morant had the right people around him.
