After missing out on a three-peat of MVP awards, Jokic has clapped back at his doubters by leading the Denver Nuggets to their first NBA Finals appearance in franchise history. Jokic has become a media favorite. But he still doesn’t understand American sports media’s obsession with stats.
“I only talk about people telling me my stats, and I’m trying to say it’s team basketball,” Jokic said in the Game 4 preview interview of the NBA Finals. “… I think it’s how do everything work. In Europe, it’s a little bit maybe the team, the winning. Here is winning too, but maybe more stats. I don’t know.”

Nikola Jokic never cares about individual stats. In Game 3 of the NBA Finals, he became the first person in history to record a 30-20-10 triple-double. Jokic revealed in the postgame interview that it really didn’t mean much to him. Instead, he was just happy about winning the game.
Speaking of which, the Nuggets won with a score of 109-94 behind a stellar 32-point triple-double by Jokic. The team now holds a 2-1 lead over the Heat and will be looking forward to increasing it to 3-1 in Game 4 on Friday night.

Nikola Jokic is undoubtedly the best player on the current Denver Nuggets team. But he admitted that he’s not much of a vocal leader for the organization.
Despite that admission, the Joker took matters into his own hands when the Nuggets suffered a 108-111 defeat in Game 2 of the 2023 NBA Finals. DeAndre Jordan revealed the content of Jokic’s motivating message that helped the Nuggets win Game 3.
“His message was basically that we can’t be relaxed,” Jordan revealed. “We’ve got to have more fight, more energy, and pay attention to the game plan. And leading up to Game 3, in practice and shootaround, everyone was hyper-focused, and that transferred over into the game.”
It’s great to see the two-time MVP winner becoming a vocal leader for the Nuggets. As for his performance on the court, he is currently averaging 33.3 PPG, 14.0 RPG, and 9.3 APG against the Heat.
