In today’s game, we have frequently seen stars take certain games off for “load management”, which in theory will allow them to be fresh for the postseason so they can perform at the highest level on the biggest stage.

However, it seems as though some believe that stars frequently missing games have actually hurt them. Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George has recently claimed that load management is making modern players “weaker”.

“Teams don’t really practice, you know we’re not getting up and down”, said George. “They think by giving us time off it’s helped managing our bodies but it’s really making us weaker as players.”

There is no doubt that this is an interesting view on the load management debate. It is possible that being put through a tougher regimen and schedule could end up helping modern players get even better, but there are times when a player has an injury that absolutely has to be managed to prevent re-aggravation. It’ll be interesting to see if any other players will chime in on this issue going forward. Kevin Durant has notably stated that as a player, he wants to play all 48 minutes, and it is clear that a lot of older stars are against the practice.

As of right now, Paul George is averaging 23.5 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 5.2 APG for the Los Angeles Clippers. The star has played in 47 of the 64 possible Clippers games this year, and hopefully, he will continue to be available for the rest of the season.

Anthony Edwards Has Also Ripped Stars For Load Management

There are also other stars that have spoken out about load management in recent memory. Previously, we saw Anthony Edwards blast stars that have been “sitting” and “resting.”

“All the guys sitting, resting. That’s the only thing I probably don’t like”, said Edwards. “Just play, man. If you 80%, you gotta play. I don’t like all the sitting, missing games stuff. These people might have enough money to come to one game. And that might be the game they come to and you sitting out.”

There is no doubt that the game is better when stars are healthy, available, and playing. For a lot of fans, seeing their favorite stars play is what they love most about basketball. However, it is understandable that sometimes players sit because of some lingering issues to come back stronger.

Hopefully, we see the league, and the players association come up with a good solution for the load management situation. There must be a balance between stars playing games but also getting adequate rest, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
