For quite a while, there was a notion that Jamal Murray was just a flash in the pan from the Bubble and he has dispelled that in spectacular fashion in these playoffs.

Murray has especially shone in these NBA Finals and had 15 points to go with 12 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal in Game 4 as the Denver Nuggets won 108-95 to take a 3-1 lead over the Miami Heat. Following that display, Paul Pierce had some very high praise for the Canadian.

“Jamal Murray is the best point guard in the league”

While Pierce is entitled to his opinion, calling Murray the best point guard in the league right now might be a bit premature. He is an incredible player no doubt, but we have some incredible point guards in the league at the moment.

Is Murray better than the likes of Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic right now? Probably not. He needs to keep playing at this high level which has seen him average 23.3 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 10.5 APG, and 1.0 SPG in these Finals for another year or two and then, he’d have a strong case to be regarded as the best point guard in the league.

Jamal Murray’s Impact On Game 4

Murray’s numbers in Game 4 don’t look great on the surface, especially when you consider he only shot 5-17 from the field, but anyone who saw the game would tell you just how impactful he was.

With the Nuggets leading 86-76 in the fourth quarter, Nikola Jokic picked up his fifth foul and had to come out of the game. The Heat quickly cut the lead down to 86-81 with the Serbian off the floor, but Murray then stepped up. He first hit a big three to put them up eight and then assisted on their next seven points, which ensured the Heat never got too close.

When Jokic finally returned, the Nuggets were up 96-87 and they kept the Heat at arm’s length the rest of the way. Denver could have crumbled in the fourth without their superstar, but Murray ensured that was not going to happen.
