Point guard Russell Westbrook was notably traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Utah Jazz ahead of the trade deadline this year, with the point guard then securing a buyout to join the Los Angeles Clippers

With the Los Angeles Clippers, Russell Westbrook has taken on more of a floor general type of role and prioritized his scoring much less than he has on other franchises. Recently, Russell Westbrook revealed that he is willing to do whatever is needed on any given night when asked about his new role.

“Whatever is asked of me, whatever I need to do that night, I’ll do it. If it’s scoring, rebounding, defending, leadership, energy, whatever it is… I’m grateful and thankful that I had the opportunity be to be on the floor and play.”

There is no doubt that this is a good mindset from Russell Westbrook. Though some analysts have frequently called him a difficult player to coach, it is clear that he is adopting a team-first mentality with the Clippers.

As of right now, Russell Westbrook is averaging 15.9 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 7.5 APG on the season. He has notably been relatively efficient during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers, shooting 52.1% from the field. The 3PT shooting on the team has clearly helped him thrive, and we’ll see how he does for the rest of the season.

Paul George And Kawhi Leonard Both Wanted Russell Westbrook

There were a lot of Clippers players that openly advocated for the team to add Russell Westbrook. One of them was Paul George, and he recently explained that both he and Kawhi Leonard wanted the team to sign Westbrook due to the team needing a point guard after moving John Wall and Reggie Jackson.

“We traded our two point guards (John and Reggie) so we were like we really needed a point. I thought I could do it buts it’s a lot especially if you got Jrue Holiday picking you up and you gotta create.”

Though the team has not exactly done well since they signed Russell Westbrook, some of those losses were not at all the point guard’s fault. He has played well on an individual level and could be an X-factor for the team.

The Los Angeles Clippers definitely have the talent to get far this year, and hopefully, they are able to do so. They clearly believe Russell Westbrook can get them over the hump, and we’ll see how that works out in the future.
