Recent reports say Shannon Sharpe has spoken to ESPN about the possibility of becoming a high-profile ‘contributor’ for the network.
According to Front Office Sports, the role would also mean that the former Super Bowl champion can co-host ‘First Take’ alongside Stephen A. Smith and a rotating cast of members.
The report added:
“They include contributors Michael Irvin of NFL Network (if his legal issues are cleared) and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of Sirius XM as well as ESPN’s own Ryan Clark.”
The move would also mean Sharpe being able to continue his podcast Club Shay Shay which now has around 1.23 million subscribers.
That said, the deal is yet to be finalized, and it’s worth noting that Sharpe has spoken to several other networks apart from ESPN. In all probability, he will be back in business before the start of the NFL season in August.
Shannon Sharpe Was With Undisputed For Seven Years
Shannon Sharpe is a renowned face in the TV circuit after spending seven years with FS1’s Undisputed alongside Skip Bayless. While the show did generate solid ratings, there were also ample tensions that flared between the two parties.
Last month, Sharpe and Fox Sports had reached a buyout agreement, and he wrapped up with the show after the 2023 NBA Finals.
While there was no concrete development as to why Sharpe left the show, many believed that it was Bayless and his scathing comments that caused the exit. That said, the two seemed to have mended their differences when Sharpe bid an emotional goodbye.
“I’ll never forget what you did for me,” Sharpe said, breaking down. “I am here because of you. You have allowed me to share the stage with you.”
Now, ESPN will potentially see a reliable and liked face in Sharpe. It’s interesting to see how this pans out.
