The Phoenix Suns were reportedly in the market to find trade suitors for Deandre Ayton after acquiring Bradley Beal due to the team needing depth on the roster. Likely two-for-one offers were made, but it seems the Suns were not moved.

The Suns received a compelling offer from the Dallas Mavericks for Ayton, but it was reportedly turned down as recently as a few days ago, according to Chris Haynes.

“Not too long ago, the Dallas Mavericks made a real serious play for Deandre Ayton. It was not approved, it was something that the Phoenix Suns felt like wasn’t an adequate package to make that deal. Now, I am hearing they’re keeping Ayton.”

Haynes also said that interested teams like the Mavericks, Raptors, and Pacers could improve their offers in the coming few days to try and make the Suns give up Ayton. At this point, it seems they may be better off keeping Ayton instead of accepting scraps on his trade value from some other team.

Is Deandre Ayton Off-Limits?

The Suns have expressed a desire to keep Ayton this summer, hoping that the new energy in the organization with Frank Vogel could help the big man unlock his potential. Ayton clearly didn’t like Monty Williams and now has a chance to rediscover his form.

The price for Ayton has to be very low right now, given how expensive his contract is and his performances in the playoffs. Aytron averaged just 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds for the Suns in the postseason, eventually getting benched for Jock Landale. The Bahamian center still has three years left on his deal with $102 million guaranteed over these years.

He always finds a way to stay on the roster, so it’s likely that Phoenix enters the season with Ayton to see if his value is redeemable. If it works out, the Suns have a top-tier center that they can flip for good rotational pieces or rely on his abilities to man the paint for the entire season and playoffs.
