Deandre Ayton is one of the better centers in the league, being highly regarded for his athleticism and post-scoring. Even though he was the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, he has not yet become a star-level player.

The Phoenix Suns hired coach Frank Vogel this offseason, and perhaps he could help them get the best out of Deandre Ayton. In fact, recently, Vogel claimed that he wants to connect with the center and make him an All-Star level player.

“I think he can be one of the best centers in the league. … There are still areas that he can grow offensively, but I’m intent on really connecting with him and restoring him to an All-Star level player.”

It is clear that Deandre Ayton didn’t have the best relationship with the previous head coach, Monty Williams. Hopefully, things are better with Frank Vogel, and Ayton still has time to change the trajectory of his career.

This season, Deandre Ayton averaged 18.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG, and 1.7 APG for the Phoenix Suns. He can clearly handle a bigger role, and we’ll see whether he gets one next season under Frank Vogel.

Portland Trail Blazers Could Trade For Deandre Ayton

The Portland Trail Blazers are a team that has previously been linked to Deandre Ayton. A report revealed that they could move the No. 3 pick to acquire the center, but it was also mentioned that they would require other assets from the Suns to make a deal happen.

“Multiple sources have confirmed Portland has an interest in Deandre Ayton & could be willing to discuss a deal centered around the 3rd overall pick and additional pieces. Scoot Henderson & Brandon Miller are both considered to be foundational players in this upcoming NBA Draft.”

“I was told Portland would require other pieces for a deal like this to be something they’d be willing to discuss… They’re shopping 3rd pick & have had an interest in Ayton since last summer!”

It will be interesting to see which other teams will express interest in Deandre Ayton. He can definitely be a positive contributor on a good team, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
