Lakers Rumors: “L.A. Is Where Anthony Davis Wanted To Be, LeBron James Is The Teammate He Wanted To Have, And The Lakers Have Done Enough To Sell Him On A Future With The Franchise.”

2 Min Read

There have been a lot of questions about Anthony Davis’ future with the franchise. Despite the fact that he wanted to be traded there, he has yet to express any intention that he will re-sign with the team past this summer. By all accounts, it seemed as though the team had to prove themselves to Davis before he committed to sticking around.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic and the NBA’s hiatus, the Lakers might never get the chance to close out the 2019-20 campaign. So did they do enough to earn Davis’ commitment? Executives around the league seem to believe so.

By any measure, this is the top priority of the summer given what the Lakers had to give up to get him. Most in league circles believe that work is largely done – that L.A. is where Davis wanted to be, LeBron James is the teammate he wanted to have, and that the Lakers have done enough to sell him on a future with the franchise.

Anthony Davis has changed the game for L.A. After missing the postseason just last year, Davis’ presence had made them a top title contender. Before the NBA’s suspension, they were first in the West with the NBA’s second-best record at 49-14.

At 27-years-old with season averages of 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, it’s clear he is one of the best players in basketball. With his future secured, the Lakers are poised to be dominant for years to come.

The only question now is what, or who will stand in their way?
