3 Lakers Hybrid Teams: Los Angeles Wolves, Los Angeles Rockets, Los Angeles Warriors

Some people say that Kawhi Leonard put an end to the ‘superteam’ era when he decided to join the Los Angeles Clippers instead of teaming up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the Los Angeles Lakers, and they may be right.

At first glance, it seems like there aren’t any true ‘Big 3s’ in the league anymore, just great duos with a nice supporting cast next to them: Kyrie Irving & Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry & Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard & CJ McCollum, Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown, etcetera.

But what if we could play God and just put together the best players from two teams to form our top-notch squad? What if we took the defending champions and made them even stronger by meshing them with other Western Conference powerhouses? Let’s break it down:

Los Angeles Wolves

Dennis Schroder, D’Angelo Russell, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Karl-Anthony Towns

In this first case scenario, the Los Angeles Lakers would go back to their roots in Minnesota, teaming up with the Timberwolves to form an explosive offensive juggernaut. While the defense may be a concern with this squad, they could pretty much outscore everybody else in the league.

With Dennis Schroder, LeBron James, and D’Angelo Russell, they’d have three players capable of running the point. Moreover, this would be the ultimate all-shooting lineup, as all five players can consistently knock down shots from all three levels.

In terms of size, they would have quite a physical frontcourt not many other teams in the world could match up against in the paint, with three solid rim protectors with a feel for swatting shots into the stands. Thank God this is hypothetical.

Los Angeles Rockets

John Wall, James Harden, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins

Team number two would be more volatile but is also way more talented and balanced. Dealing with John Wall, James Harden, and DeMarcus Cousins plus LeBron James in the same locker room could be a bit of a handful, but you’re going to win a bunch load of basketball games.

John Wall’s presence would allow LeBron and Harden to play off the ball and get countless wide-open shots, while Davis and Cousins would simply demolish every single rival in the pick-and-roll. We’ve seen what they’re capable of playing side by side, and there isn’t a frontcourt on earth that could keep them both in check.

This lineup features three players from the University of Kentucky plus two of the greatest scorers of all time. In terms of defense, Wall, Davis, and LeBron can get the job done, while Harden is also a massive threat in passing lanes. Sheesh.

Los Angeles Warriors

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, LeBron James, Draymond Green, Anthony Davis

But among all these hypothetical teams, no one would be as unbeatable as the Los Angeles Warriors. Not even the two teams aforementioned would stand a chance vs. this team, as they could play the ultimate pace-and-space kind of offense and play lockdown defense as well.

Draymond Green is one of the most versatile defenders of all time and can guard one through five. Klay Thompson is one of the best backcourt defenders in the league, Anthony Davis is a top-notch rim protector, and LeBron James can also match up vs. the rivals’ best scorer.

In terms of offense, this team would feature the two greatest shooters of all time next to two players that draw a lot of attention in the paint. Also, Stephen Curry, LeBron, and Green can take turns running the offense and provide a lot of motion and flow to this team. It simply wouldn’t be fair.
