NBA Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers Are Interested In DeMarcus Cousins But Would Prefer Andre Drummond

The Los Angeles Lakers’ need for a big man with size surfaced after the injury to Anthony Davis. They need a player who can soak up some regular-season minutes, while also providing a solid impact in the playoffs. The Lakers have been linked to a variety of names that they could acquire in order to address the needs on their roster.

Two of the names widely linked to the Los Angeles Lakers have been DeMarcus Cousins and Andre Drummond. Both are former All-Star big men and would provide a great inside presence for the Los Angeles Lakers. Both players are clearly talented and could help the Los Angeles Lakers gain a high-upside veteran for the team. Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer reported on the situation.

League sources say they have interest in free agent DeMarcus Cousins, but Drummond is their preference if he gets bought out. Drummond has been benched while the Cavaliers seek a trade, but there’s doubt around the league that they’ll be able to find one due to his massive $28.8 million salary.

It seems as though the Los Angeles Lakers are waiting to see whether the Cavaliers would be able to find a trade for Drummond. Drummond is currently the superior player in terms of athleticism and is closer to being that third star than DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins spaces the floor better than Drummond but is worse athletically and defensively. Either player could help the roster, and patience seems to be the key for the Lakers. They have some time before the deadline to make the big decisions, and hopefully, they can navigate their way into getting to the Finals once again.
