While not all of his best teammates were All-Stars, they were impactful alongside the Hall of Fame point guard. It is time to rank the top 10 teammates in Chris Paul’s career, starting from his time with the Hornets and finishing with the teammates he is playing with in Phoenix.
10. Mikal Bridges
Mikal Bridges is a perfect 3-and-D wing in the modern NBA. He is only 24 years of age and is playing in the NBA Finals in his first postseason appearance in his young career. With the Suns alongside Chris Paul, Bridges is having a career year. He is averaging 13.5 PPG and 4.3 RPG on 42.5% shooting from the three-point line while playing above-average defense.
The fact that Bridges is already a top-10 teammate of Chris Paul is a testament to his growth as an impactful wing. The proof is in the pudding as well, because the play of Bridges has allowed Paul to be free on offense because the former is always ready to release a three-point jumper. In the postseason, Ayton is putting up 16.0 PPG and 12.1 RPG and has had a tremendous impact on Paul’s run to his first NBA Finals appearance. Even though Paul has been a blessing to Ayton’s career earlier on, Ayton has also been a major factor in Paul’s best season yet.
7. Tyson Chandler
Tyson Chandler was one of the best defensive players that Chris Paul has ever played with, and the center averaged 10.2 PPG and 11.3 RPG during his 3 years with the Hornets. Chandler was not only a rim protector but a great locker room guy who was an option for Chris Paul’s lobs.
Chandler completed a solid Hornets lineup because his length and defensive ability worked perfectly alongside All-Star forward David West. At times, Chandler played like a defensive star to form a solid Big Three with Paul handling the ball.
6. Peja Stojakovic
Peja Stojakovic is one of the best shooters Chris Paul has ever played with, even though he was past his prime during his stint with the Hornets. Stojakovic shot a career 40.1% from three, and he averaged 14.3 PPG on 40.4% shooting from deep. With Paul handling the ball, Peja had a solid role as a knockdown shooter from deep.
In 219 games with the Hornets, Peja started 204 of them as a shooting guard and small forward. In terms of pure shooters, Peja might be the top-3 best teammate that Paul ever played with. Stojakovic could not help Paul gain the success he wanted in the postseason but he was one of the best teammates in Chris Paul’s career.
5. David West
David West was one of the best scorers that Chris Paul has ever played with, as he made an All-Star Team alongside the point guard. West averaged 21.0 PPG and 8.5 RPG in 2009 in his personal best season, and his pick n roll setup with Chris Paul was almost impossible to defend.
West was a tremendous knockdown shooter from mid-range and also had solid post moves when Paul fed him the ball. In West’s two All-Star seasons with the Hornets, he averaged 47.7% from the field and 86.7% from the free-throw line whenever he was fouled.
4. DeAndre Jordan
As a part of the Lob City era, DeAndre Jordan had his best years as a professional alongside Chris Paul. Even if Jordan lacked any offensive talent or shooting ability, Chris Paul maximized his ability to be an impact player on offense thanks to the alley-oop. Chris Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets in a blockbuster move to form a ball-dominant duo with an MVP candidate James Harden. When people doubted their ability to be effective without the ball, the duo proved doubters wrong.
Harden and Paul were tremendous in leading the Rockets to multiple deep playoff runs including a Western Conference Finals berth in 2018. If Paul never got injured against the Golden State Warriors, he might have made his first Finals in 2018.
