Monty Williams On The Lakers: “They Are Still The Champs. Everyone Is Chasing Them.”

Like most other teams, the Los Angeles Lakers are having an extremely challenging season — dealing with the impact of COVID-19, injuries to several key players, and a presence in a Conference that has gotten too deep for its own good.

Nevertheless, a lot of respect remains for the Lakeshow, as Suns coach Monty Williams proved in a chat with the media.

“L.A. is still the champs. They are the one team that has the present DNA. Everyone is chasing them. They’ve proven they can win difficult games.

You have to beat them in a series to declare (your team on that level),” Williams said.

After claiming the 2020 Championship last season, the Lakers put themselves at the top of basketball’s ultimate hierarchy. And while their path to a repeat will not be easy, they’ve earned unbridled respect from everyone around the league.

We’ll see if the Suns (or any other team for that matter) can do something similar this season.
