The Miami Heat became the team to beat in the NBA as soon as LeBron James announced that he would ‘take his talents to South Beach’ and they also got Chris Bosh next to Dwyane Wade. That Big 3 was poised to dominate the league but it wasn’t as easy as they’d thought in the first place.
Miami made it to the NBA Finals and were heavily favored to beat Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. They were up 2-1 at some point in the series and even mocked Nowitzki’s flu. Then, the Great Teuton played the best basketball of his career to lead the Mavs to three straight wins.
Fast forward to today and that loss in the NBA Finals still haunts the members of that Big 3, as even Chris Bosh recently told Shannon Sharpe in an episode of Club Shay Shay that they felt embarrassed and shameful for the way they played:
“It was embarrassing, it was hard, we were shameful. We just weren’t ready, they were better than us. LeBron didn’t play well, nobody did,” Bosh said.

That was LeBron James’ second trip to the NBA Finals and he was vastly overwhelmed by the situation, averaging under 20 points per game for the series.
Gladly for them, they had plenty of chances to redeem themselves after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder and then San Antonio Spurs in 2012 and 2013 before breaking up after a loss to the Spurs in 2014.
Looking back, it’s crazy to think that not even having 3 of the best 10 players in the league can guarantee you a dynasty. That’s just how difficult it is to win an NBA Championship.
