NBA Rumors: Warriors View Andrew Wiggins As A Member Of Their ‘Core-Four’ Superteam

As NBA teams scratch and claw their way to the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors sit at home, waiting for their chance to rise again.

With Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green set to return to the court next season, it’s not controversial to include the Warriors amongst the 2020-21 NBA title favorites.

But the big question surrounding Golden State is what else they might have planned to do with the roster. Could they trade that #2 overall pick for another star? Might they use Andrew Wiggins to bring in a bigger name?

In regards to the latter, it appears the team has already bought-in to the idea of keeping him.

“We’re gonna go into this in-market bubble in a few weeks and watch what our core-four guys look like — and I’m putting Wiggins in there,” Warriors GM Bob Myers told The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami on Wednesday.

“What does that even look like? Nobody has seen it. I haven’t seen it, you haven’t seen it, no coach has seen it, players haven’t felt it. So in order to kind of move forward, we need to evaluate what we have — and evaluate what that is. I’d be lying if I knew what it was. I have ideas of what it might be … we need to see it, and that’s why I’m excited about the weeks in September and early October to see some of it.”

Obviously the quote by Myers implies that Wiggins will be sticking around long term and it’s easy to see why. As a versatile scoring wing, Wiggins is exactly the type of player that the Warriors need to take the offensive pressure off of Curry and Klay in the backcourt. In his 12 games with the Dubs, he averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on 45% shooting.

Of course, it remains to be seen what they will surround their ‘core-four’ with, but it’s clear that Golden State will be right back on top of the basketball world next season. Teams better enjoy life without them now…
