NBA Rumors: Warriors May Consider Signing DeMarcus Cousins Again

DeMarcus Cousins wasn’t exactly “living the dream” in his last stint with the Warriors. He failed to rebuild any of his value and the Warriors failed to win a Championship — forcing Cousins to move on and look for greener pastures elsewhere.

But in a report by Tony Pesta of Fansided’s Blue Man Hoop, DeMarcus and the Warriors could be set for a reunion in the 2020-21 season.

“Since he has taken over a year off of basketball, it’s possible Cousins is ready to compete again. Cousins was cut by the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this season before he even suited up for them. This puts the big man back on the market and opens up a path for a reunion in Golden State. The Warriors wouldn’t need Cousins to play at an all-star level. Expectations will be much lower and this could benefit him in the long run. If Cousins can rebound the ball and score in the post at a decent rate, he will find success with the Dubs this time around.”

Cousins has come a long way since his days in Sacramento. As the face of the franchise (and one of the NBA’s best big men), DeMarcus averaged 21 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game on 45% shooting in seven total seasons with the Kings.

After all the injuries, it’s unlikely Cousins will ever play at that level again, but it doesn’t mean he can’t contribute to a team like Golden State. So long as he can rebound and dominate the post, there will always be a place for him somewhere. Here’s to hoping for a quick and successful return for Cousins.
