Jimmy Butler is having a great first season with the Miami Heat, taking the team to be one of the best squads in the Eastern Conference. Miami boasts a 38-22 record and is seen as one of the animators of the East this year.

Although they aren’t as favorites as the Milwaukee Bucks or the Boston Celtics, Erik Spoelstra and company have achieved something good with a veteran player like Butler and a lot of young talent like Bam Adebayo, Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro.

Just like this Heat, Butler knows what it is like to fight to be recognized in the league, as he revealed during an interview with Sports Illustrated. The former Philadelphia 76ers star reflected on his life and career, where he overcame several obstacles until he became the star he is right now.

He doesn’t like talking about that past, but occasionally he alludes to it. “You gotta go further into my life,” Butler says at one point, “to understand why I am the way that I am. And I ain’t changing.

“I’m not a god-given talent. I ain’t the best shooter. I’m not the best ballhandler. Not the most athletic. Not the fastest. But I battle. I fight. I’m tough as s— and I don’t back down. There goes my talent for you. I ain’t scared of nobody. Can’t scare me.”

Butler has been the subject of controversies in recent seasons, but it looks like he’s found a good thing in Miami, sharing touches with players with big potential and having the chance to lead them to achieve big things.

He had to fight for everything in his life and he always shows that on the court. The future looks great for Miami and Butler is ready to take this team to the promised land.
