The Los Angeles Dodgers are back-to-back World Series champions following a 5-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 at Rogers Center on Saturday. It was an 11-inning classic, and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James seemed to have loved every minute of it. After the game, James first sent a message on X to express just how much he loves Game 7s.

“The 2 best words in sports. GAME SEVEN!!!! Wow what a game!!!”

Not long after, James, who attended Game 4 of this World Series with his wife, Savannah, also congratulated the Dodgers for getting over the line.

“CONGRATULATIONS Dodgers !!!”

James wasn’t the only Laker to congratulate the Dodgers. Luka Doncic also loved what he saw on the night and sent his own message on X.

“What a game!! Wow, congrats Dodgers.”

There are strong ties between these two teams, of course. Mark Walter is the majority owner of the Dodgers and was approved as the majority owner of the Lakers by the NBA’s Board of Governors on Thursday. To go with this connection, Lakers icon Magic Johnson is also a co-owner of the Dodgers.

Johnson was delighted after this triumph, and he hilariously pointed out that he had now won 18 championships in total. There were multiple points when it didn’t seem like he was going to get his happy ending, though.

The Dodgers seemed down and out when they went down 3-2 in the World Series, as the final two games were in Toronto. They then won Game 6 3-1 to force a do-or-die Game 7.

The Dodgers were in trouble for much of this night, as they trailed the Blue Jays 3-0 and 4-2, but managed to storm back and win. Miguel Rojas hit a solo home run at the top of the ninth inning with the Dodgers trailing 4-3 to tie the game, and it eventually went into extra innings. The top of the 11th inning would then see Will Smith hit a solo home run of his own to give his team the lead for the first time in Game 7.

The Dodgers would not relinquish that lead and have become the first team to defend the title since the New York Yankees, who won three in a row from 1998 to 2000. The Dodgers, of course, beat the Yankees in the 2024 World Series and have their eyes now set on a three-peat.

James and Doncic would be hoping they can help the Lakers follow in the Dodgers’ footsteps. The franchise last won an NBA championship in 2020 and has gotten out of the first round only once since then.

The Lakers were expected to go on a deep playoff run in 2025, but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the first round. It was a disappointing end to a season that promised much following Doncic’s arrival via trade from the Dallas Mavericks in February 2025. Will this 2025-26 campaign prove to be different? Only time will tell.

The Lakers are off to a 4-2 start despite James and Doncic missing time. The former has yet to play a game as he deals with sciatica, while the latter has at least managed to feature in three contests.

Doncic has looked unstoppable whenever he has played, averaging 45.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in 2025-26. The Slovenian isn’t sure he’ll be able to average 40 points over the course of the season, and that is indeed unlikely.

What is clear, though, is that the physical transformation Doncic underwent in the summer is paying dividends. The five-time All-Star has been making a mockery of defenses, and we’ll see him in action next against the Miami Heat at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday at 9:30 PM ET.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely.
