Speaking on the ‘Underground Lounge’ podcast, former NBA guard Lou Williams discussed the ongoing conspiracy against Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Williams and his colleague, Jamal Crawford, agreed that there’s an active movement against the young champions right now.

“Is there a conspiracy going on against Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown? I really wanna know because I’m trying to wrap my head around this whole concept of Jaylen Brown not being on that team,” said Crawford. “I’m trying to wrap my head around the league putting them against each other… and now you got [Tatum] not getting minutes.”

Fresh off winning a championship, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum should be feeling total validation after years of competing for the Celtics. Finally, they brought the Larry O’Brien trophy back to Boston and proved themselves as the ultimate winners after breezing through the East to cap off a 64-win season.

And yet, even after completing the mission, it seems that Tatum and Brown are still overlooked in favor of their peers. Despite being the champions and proving all the doubters wrong, Tatum and Brown still do not get the respect they deserve.

The first offense was against the NBA’s reigning Finals MVP. Brown, 27, was on fire in the playoffs and proved himself as one of the league’s top two-way players in the final two rounds of the playoffs. Somehow, he missed the cut for the Olympic roster. Even after Kawhi Leonard dropped from the team, Brown was still denied a spot as he watched his Celtics teammate, Derrick White, accept the position instead.

Brown posted about the snub and seemingly blamed Nike for their role in gate-keeping the Olympic roster. Team USA still managed to win the gold without Jaylen, but not inviting the NBA’s Finals MVP certainly qualifies as a controversial move.

Of course, Jayson Tatum was one of the original members of the 2024 team but his experience was less than ideal. Despite being fresh off a championship, and being named as the 2K cover athlete, Tatum was confined to the bench for much of the summer, and his benching became one of the big stories of USA basketball this year.

Tatum himself admitted that his experience at the Games this year was rough and it can’t be what he imagined for his return to the Olympics after averaging 15.2 points per game four years prior.

Nobody knows why Tatum and Brown were treated with such disregard by the Olympic committee but it’s not an entirely new phenomenon. For years, the narrative surrounding the duo has been to try and break them up.

Since they came together in 2017, either one or the other has been involved in trade rumors and countless teams have been reported to make offers. Through it all, the Celtics have remained consistent in their commitment to keep their stars together. After winning the title, and being the favorites heading into next season, it’s fair to say that their faith in the pair has paid off to an impressive degree.

Conspiracy or not, Tatum and Brown have proven everyone wrong and they plan to keep up the pace for several years to come. With, arguably, the best roster in the league, the Celtics are well-equipped to handle the battles to come and you have to commend them for keeping their core together in the face of so much chaos.
