LeBron James was featured on a Team USA social media post pulling off some basic dribbling drills, the kind that is instrumental in building dribbling fundamentals among young hoopers as well. It didn’t look as flashy or fluid as the kind fans expected, but more like a viral video of Kendrick Perkins doing the same in his driveway in 2020.

This is a fundamental dribbling drill that every pro basketball player has used. Kendrick Perkins dribbling the ball on an NBA court won’t lead to good things, but he definitely can dribble it enough to complete basic basketball dribbling drills. LeBron executing the same without adding anything extra has made it look similar, but these are two pro basketball players doing something really basic.
The fact it looks so similar should be a credit to Perkins more than anything, as he performed that drill a couple of years into retirement as an NBA center who didn’t dribble the ball often. This is a basic drill and NBA players regardless of caliber or size regularly execute this in practice.
Everyone knows LeBron can be a primary ball-handler, but being 6’9″ will not allow him to have the small flash to his dribble that his point guard counterparts are known to show off. There’s no reason to hate or mock pro basketball players who execute that drill far better than a faceless X account would.
LeBron James Is Looking To Bring Home Gold One Final Time
LeBron James is currently getting ready for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he led the formation of a generational national team lineup that would feature him, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry team up for the first time in their careers. James and Durant have won Gold medals before, but this will be Curry’s first time representing Team USA in the Olympics.
Team USA’s roster features their three veteran faces along with 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, Kawhi Leonard, Tyrese Haliburton, Jrue Holiday, and Bam Adebayo.
If they perform up to expectation, it would lead to LeBron’s third Gold medal and first since London 2012, and Durant’s fourth Gold medal as he represented Team USA in 2012 alongside LeBron and also in 2016 and 2020. Durant is the all-time leading scorer for USA Basketball, with LeBron ranking third.
LeBron returned from an eight-year national team hiatus to bring together a team featuring the NBA’s best American talent. Thankfully, Savannah James gave him the green light to reach out to Curry and Durant about making this happen.
Their declaration led to almost every top star wanting to be on the shortlist for the Olympics, with players such as Damian Lillard, Draymond Green, Kyrie Irving, Jalen Brunson, Jaylen Brown, and more missing out. But as this likely will be the last Olympics for the big three, more spots will be opening up for the 2028 Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles.
