The Detroit Pistons have ended their historic 28-game losing streak with a 129-127 win over the Toronto Raptors on Saturday night. Their last win prior to this had come against the Chicago Bulls all the way back on October 28, and NBA fans reacted to the streak finally being snapped.
One hilariously posted the viral Patrick Beverley video.

Pistons fans can finally enjoy some free wings at Wingstop now and they do need to thank the New York Knicks. Earlier in the day, the Knicks acquired OG Anunoby in exchange for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and draft picks. None of the players involved in the trade featured here, which meant the Raptors were very undermanned.
Still, we should give the Pistons credit, as they gave it their all. They had double-digit leads in each of the two games prior to this one but had failed to close the deal. They led by 11 at one stage in the fourth quarter here and managed to hang on to improve to 3-29 on the season.
With this win, the Pistons ensured they avoided the ignominy of holding the record for the longest losing streak in NBA history by themselves, as they remained tied with the Philadelphia 76ers at 28. Another loss would have also seen them tie the Chicago Cardinals for the longest losing streak in the four major American and Canadian leagues.
Cade Cunningham Had Another Big Game
While this was a great team effort from the Pistons, Cade Cunningham certainly deserved most of the credit. The 22-year-old had 30 points, 3 rebounds, 12 assists, and 1 steal, with 14 of those points coming in the fourth quarter.
In his six outings prior to this one, Cunningham had averaged 31.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game. He had given it his all but was unable to get his team across the line.
This time around, he got plenty of help, as every starter scored in double digits. Jalen Duren, in particular, played well, finishing with 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 2 assists. The big man has missed a fair bit of time due to injury this season, and the Pistons would be hoping that he and Cade can help turn things around to an extent.
The Raptors Are About To Blow It Up
For the last season or so, there has been talk of the Raptors entering a full-blown rebuild. The team was mired in mediocrity and while the front office was quite hesitant to blow it up, they are going to do it now.
Trading away Anunoby was the first step and Pascal Siakam might well be the next to go. The Siakam sweepstakes have begun, with the Kings, Hawks, and Pacers in pursuit of the two-time All-Star. NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has also reported that the Raptors will continue to explore trades involving Siakam.
While the loss to the Pistons was an embarrassment, Siakam certainly could hold his head high. He had 35 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 14-24 from the field. The 29-year-old would be a fine addition to a lot of contending teams, and it’ll be interesting to see where he ends up.
