  • Jamal Murray prefers to be a champion over an All-Star
  • Murray claimed many All-Stars never won championships
  • The point guard showed he’s one of the best guards in the league in the playoffs

Even though Jamal Murray is one of the best guards in the league right now, he has shockingly never been selected to an All-Star game during his time with the Denver Nuggets. However, it seems as though Murray has a profound view of the situation.

When speaking to the media, Murray revealed that he would rather be an NBA champion than an All-Star. He noted that many players make All-Star appearances but never win a ring.

“I’d rather be a champion. A lot of guys are All-Stars and not champions.”

It is clear that Jamal Murray values winning above all else, and this is certainly the mentality you want from one of your best players. It is that winning mentality that helped Murray fit in next to superstar Nikola Jokic, and help the Nuggets win the first championship in franchise history.

Last season, Jamal Murray averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game. Though those are solid numbers, he will have to do better this season to make the All-Star team in a loaded Western Conference. He has the talent to elevate his game even further, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

Some Believe Jamal Murray Is The Best Point Guard In The League

There is no doubt that fans and players alike were impressed with what Jamal Murray was able to do in the playoffs with the Denver Nuggets. In fact, Paul Pierce even claimed that Jamal Murray is the best point guard in the NBA.

“He can score just as good as any of them, he averaged 10+ assists, he play solid D. He gives you everything as a point guard. It ain’t nothing you can’t do. You got Luka, you got Ja, you got Steph Curry… Kyrie. Right now, I think Jamal Murray is the best point guard moving forward in the league.”

This is definitely a hot take from Pierce, but it is fair to say that Jamal Murray played like an All-NBA player in the postseason. The guard averaged 26.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game during the 20 games the Nuggets played in the playoffs, and Murray certainly elevated when the lights were brightest.

It will definitely be interesting to see if Jamal Murray can convince people that he is, in fact, the best point guard in the league going forward. There are a lot of great point guards in the league, but at his best, Murray can compete with any of them.
