- Giannis Antetokounmpo was recently non-committal when discussing a long-term Bucks extension
- Gilbert Arenas thinks the star is using his leverage
- Antetokounmpo likely wants to win multiple championships
Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the premier players in the league, and there is no doubt that he is the sort of player who can be the No. 1 option on a championship team. He won a ring in 2021 with the Milwaukee Bucks, but unfortunately, the team was eliminated in the second round in 2022, and the first round in 2023.
Previously, we saw Giannis Antetokounmpo state that he doesn’t want to spend 20 years with the Milwaukee Bucks and not win another championship. He has refused to commit to signing a long-term extension with the Bucks next summer, and Antetokounmpo’s future with the team suddenly seems murky. Recently, Gilbert Arenas explained why Antetokounmpo took this course of action.
“[Giannis] is doing what Kobe Bryant did… ‘Before I sign this thing, what are we doing here… I don’t want to be Allen Iverson. I don’t want to be Charles Barkley… I wanna win multiple, cause that’s what the legacy is built on’… He’s just using his leverage.”

There is no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo has always been a winning player. If the Milwaukee Bucks don’t commit to building around him, it is quite easy to see him leaving at some point in the future.
This past season, Giannis Antetokounmpo averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game for the Milwaukee Bucks. We will see what moves the team ends up making in the future, and it seems as though they need a shake-up to get back to championship ways.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Some Interest In Joining The Lakers
There are definitely a number of teams that have a history as winning-oriented franchises that could potentially acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo in the future. It was previously reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are potentially looming as a future destination as Antetokounmpo.
“The Lakers and the Knicks are already being mentioned as franchises presumed to interest Antetokounmpo down the road if he does decide to move on from Milwaukee.”
It remains to be seen if Giannis Antetokounmpo does in fact join the Los Angeles Lakers in the future. That could end up being a good overall career move for him in the future, especially if the team manages to retain Anthony Davis or LeBron James, or even both. Ultimately, we know that the Lakers know how to win, and the same cannot be said for some of the other franchises in the league.
