“On July 4, The Athletic reported the Celtics and Brown’s camp were expected to pick up talks at summer league. League sources told The Athletic that has gone as expected so far, with the two sides starting to make progress and likely moving closer to an agreement over the coming week.”
This comes as good news for the Celtics, who were looking at retaining Brown’s services. Earlier, the analyst wrote the reason for the delay was the string of FA activity.
Brown averaged 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists last regular season but was a pale shadow in the playoffs averaging just 19.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
That said, Boston will not think twice about offering the star guard a lucrative contract. Even if it means vaulting over $800 million in total salaries to Brown, Jayson Tatum, and later, Kristaps Porzingis.

For the Celtics, signing Jaylen Brown would mean not making the dash for Damian Lillard.
“Boston is not pursuing Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard, who wants to be traded to the Miami Heat,” a CBS report said.
The Celtics also need to ensure that Brown and Tatum can get over the line as a pair. They’re the perfect pairing, but could the Celtics use a big three of Tatum, Porzingis, and Damian Lillard more than Brown? Only time will tell.
