Russell Westbrook has gone from being widely maligned for his poor performances on the Lakers for a season and a half before being appreciated for his performances on the Clippers and him taking a massive salary cut to stay with the team.

Westbrook is a well-respected figure in the NBA, especially by fellow players and teammates. Thomas Bryant played with him in LA and on the Wizards, heaping praise on the former MVP.

“He’s one of the most brilliant, accepting guys that I’ve ever played with. Always had the best attitude you could ever think of… With Russ, he’s always coming in with a great attitude, and he’s always there for you. He’s always looking out for guys, talking to them. He’s trying to make the game so much easier for everyone.”

Bryant actually had a great stretch of games last season alongside Westbrook when he filled in for an injured Anthony Davis. He averaged 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds last season in his time with the Lakers, as both Bryant and Westbrook were traded away.

Thankfully, the center ended up winning a championship as an end-of-bench option for the Nuggets, not playing in the Finals.

Russell Westbrook Motivated To Sacrifice

After being forced to sacrifice on the Lakers for minimal results, Westbrook seems to happily be doing so for the Clippers. Despite that, he keeps finding himself in positions to make impactful plays on both ends of the floor. His playoff run with the Clippers showed how valuable he can be, averaging 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists and fighting to keep the team alive after both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George got hurt.

Russ’s role next season is still unclear, as the Clippers are reportedly trying to get James Harden on the squad. With Harden, it’s likely that Russ becomes the Clippers’ sixth man. Otherwise, he will hope to be starting and proving to the NBA that he can still contribute at the highest level.
