The Miami Heat faced heartbreak at the final step for the second time since 2020 on Monday night when they lost in the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and their teammates made a great run to get to the Finals, but they didn’t have enough to get over the hump. And it would seem they knew that before the playoffs, as Shams Charania revealed, the Heat made an offer for Kyrie Irving at the trade deadline.

“They’re going to explore, see what the star market is like out there,” Shams Charania said about the Miami Heat’s plans. He added, “Just to give you a glimpse of what they looked at over the past couple of months, they made an offer to the Nets for Kyrie Irving at the deadline right before he got traded to the Mavericks.

“But that just gives you an idea that there’s been some level of understanding. They’re trying to get Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo another piece that can take the load off.”

The Miami Heat struggled to score the ball at times in the NBA Finals, and Kyrie Irving would have been a huge help if they had managed to get him. After being traded to the Mavericks, he averaged 27.0 points and 6.0 assists per game over a 20-game span. Irving was not able to help Dallas make it to the playoffs, but he might have made the difference for Miami if they had managed to get the deal done.

Which NBA Star Can The Miami Heat Land In The Offseason?

The Miami Heat are in that rare and wonderful spot where they know they are just one more piece away from the NBA championship. Their ability to develop players like Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, and Caleb Martin shows that role players aren’t the issue. The Heat need another star, and Damian Lillard might be the answer this summer.

Lillard said he wouldn’t join the Heat if they won the championship, but they didn’t. He has expressed an interest in being a part of the team, and adding his 32.2 points per game would certainly take the team to another level. Our writer, Eddie Bitar, has devised a smart plan as to how this can work, but whatever happens, they have shown enough for fans to know that the Heat will be back contending again next season.
