The Boston Celtics have been blessed with a lot of talented superstars in their history. Jayson Tatum is currently the face of the franchise and is expected to one day lead the team to an NBA Championship.
Speaking of Tatum, the 25-year-old already has an excellent resume in the playoffs. In his short career, he already has one NBA Finals appearance and three Conference Finals appearances. Evidently, he has scored a plethora of points in those runs. So much so that Tatum has scored the same number of points as Larry Bird in the first 92 playoff games of their respective careers.
Following Tatum’s 21-point performance vs. the Miami Heat in Game 5, his total tally is up to 2,191 points. Bird scored the same number of points as well.
Although it’s a great achievement on Tatum’s part, it says more about Bird as a great offensive player. After all, during the 1980s, players didn’t use to score as freely as they do in today’s era.
Will Jayson Tatum Become One Of The Best Players Of All Time?
Jayson Tatum had the fortune of getting drafted to the Celtics when they weren’t struggling a lot. Sure, it has somewhat helped him in already stacking several accolades during the first few years of his career.
But we cannot take away Tatum’s achievements from him. Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce recently shared his views on why Tatum is on track to become one of the best players of all time.
“He’s a generational star. When you look at what he’s done in his career at such a young age. Highest All-Star score ever, Game 7 highest score ever, he’s setting NBA records, and he’s been in the Conference finals since his first or second year. He’s on pace to be one of the greatest players to ever play this game already. I have no ego in this, game recognize game. He’s doing a lot of things I did but at 6’10’, and I honor that, there’s nothing wrong with that.”
While Tatum has a bright future ahead, he is currently focused on potentially creating history by leading the Celtics to a comeback in the Conference Finals after going down 0-3.
The Celtics have registered phenomenal wins in Games 4 and 5. If they can clinch Game 6 of the series as well, the momentum will certainly be on their side and they will complete a comeback that’ll be talked about for ages.
