Desmond Bane On Wearing LeBron James’ Shoes Against The Lakers: “I Got To Leave My Pride To The Side And Do What’s Best For My Body And My Career.”

Desmond Bane spent the early part of the season recovering from a Grade 2 big toe sprain, and he struggled to find comfortable shoes to play in, trying various shoes until he tried the LeBron XX.

Now, he’s wearing those shoes every time he faces LeBron and the Lakers in the first round but isn’t happy about it.

“Nah. I mean, nah, I [wasn’t happy wearing the shoes against LeBron],” said Bane to ESPN. “But you know, I got to leave my pride to the side and do what’s best for my body and my career.”

In the process of Bane picking a shoe, he tried various Nike shoes due to his brand deal with the company. He wore Paul George’s ‘PG 6’s’ prior to the injury but experimented with the various versions of the Nike Zoom GT and the Kyrie’s before realizing nothing beats the LeBron XX’s for his needs.

Bane is currently averaging 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists against LeBron’s Lakers in the first round. He is likely to undergo surgery on a joint in his right big toe in the summer to fully fix the issue.

LeBron James Had A Mature Reaction To Bane Wearing His Shoes

Desmond Bane and LeBron James have had some tiffs on the court this season, with an iconic clip of James telling Bane not to disrespect him before he came down the court and dunked the ball. Despite the animosity, James has put his anger aside and said he would ensure Bane has a steady supply of the shoes.

“Respect. Respect. I joked about it a few years ago, like, if a guy’s wearing my sneakers I’m going to have to bust your ass and s—. Like, I’m not even in that type of energy no more, that type of space,” said James to ESPN. “I just think that’s super dope. And I got to send some more to him now. I got to make sure he’s a LeBron athlete now.”

Even if James is arranging more shoes for him, he knows he won’t take it easy on them in Game 3. LeBron may just end up not having to send any more shoes if the Lakers can eliminate the Grizz.
