Colin Cowherd called out the Sacramento Kings, saying the beam they light up after every win causes a massive amount of energy waste.

“Light the Beam feels like an egregious waste of energy. Hopefully, @GavinNewsom looks into it,” the analyst tweeted.

Except that his thoughts were proved wrong by Sacramento Bee’s Michael McGough. The journalist noted that the beam uses about only as “much power as a typical household appliance.”

He also added that the arena has also won the Arena Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum certification. Lighting up the beam has been a renowned ritual this season in Sacramento, and the Kings have given enough reasons for the Arena to light up the night sky.

With the Kings winning both their home games in the first round of the playoffs against the Golden State Warriors, the team has done everything right to put the defending champions under the pump. It’s also interesting that Cowherd’s comments on the beam come after he defended the Warriors’ losses and Draymond Green’s Game 3 suspension.

The Sacramento Kings Have Been Impressive This Season

The Sacramento Kings have been clinical and did not put a foot wrong in the regular season, finishing as the No. 3 seed. Led admirably by Mike Brown, who was unanimously adjudged as the league’s ‘Coach of the Year,’ the team has played some quality ball.

Much of the credit also rightly goes to the likes of Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox, who have thrived under Brown and have been instrumental in notching up solid performances to help the Kings win.

They broke their lengthy playoff drought and have now put the brakes on the Golden State Warriors in the first two games of the first round of the playoffs.

Whether the Kings eventually cave to the Warriors remains to be seen, but what they can take away is the fact that they have made Sacramento proud, and as long as they are winning, the beam will continue to hit the skies.
