The Sacramento Kings finished as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference this season, completing the season with a 48-34 record. There’s no doubt that they have had a good year, and the team is currently holding a 2-0 first-round series lead over the Golden State Warriors

A huge part of the team’s success has been head coach Mike Brown, who was an assistant coach on the championship-winning Golden State Warriors during the 2021-22 season. He has clearly changed the culture in Sacramento and should be credited for their success. It seems as though he will get his flowers, as he has recently won the Coach of the Year award. In fact, he is the first-ever unanimous COTY.

Of course, a lot of credit should also be given to the players such as De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, who have bought into Mike Brown’s offensive philosophy and went out and got wins on the court. However, it is clear that Mike Brown was crucial in them breaking their long-time playoff drought, and if he wins this series against the Golden State Warriors, then he should absolutely be considered among the five best coaches in the league.

Even if the Sacramento Kings do end up losing to the Golden State Warriors, this does not invalidate what Mike Brown and the team were able to do. They look like they will be contending for a while, and we’ll see how the playoffs go for them.
