Despite suffering some big losses in recent games, the Boston Celtics are finishing the 2022-23 NBA regular season on a high note.

However, their championship dreams could end very soon, as Kendrick Perkins has warned them about Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat.

“If I’m the Boston Celtics, I’m praying I don’t see Jimmy Butler in the first round… It would be upset alert.”

“If I’m the Celtics, I’m praying that I don’t see playoff Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in the first round. … It would be upset alert … I’m telling you this right now.”

If the season finishes today, the Heat would go to the play-in tournament, and with a win, they would clash against the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. This would be huge for both teams, which have been dominating the Eastern Conference in recent times.

The regular-season matchup is 2-2 right now after the C’s won the first two games of the series, and the Heat picked up in the final two. Their realities are different from last season, but these two always put up a show when they clash.

Jimmy Butler Has Created A Rivalry With Boston Celtics

In the past three seasons, they’ve clashed two times in the same stance. First, the Heat beat the Celtics in the infamous Orlando bubble, going to the NBA Finals where the Los Angeles Lakers beat them in six games.

Last season, they faced off again at the Eastern Conference Finals, with the Celtics getting a huge 4-3 win, taking a huge win at the Miami Heat arena with Butler missing a shot that cost his team the game and the series. He still posted big games during that series, almost taking his team back to the Finals.

This season, they could go against each other again, but not in the ECF. The C’s are inspired right now, but the Heat are also trying to make life hard for the top-4 teams. Butler doesn’t shy away from these challenges, which is why Perkins asks the Celtics to be careful with him.

Butler has averaged 19.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 31 games against the Celtics in his career.
