Doncic finished the night with a game-high 42 points to go with 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals while Kyrie had 23 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds. They again put up good numbers, but the problem is once again on the defensive end.

The Heat are at the bottom of the league when it comes to PPG and they managed to put up 129 points here. Jimmy Butler led the way for Miami with 35 points, 12 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal as they shot 52.3% from the field as a team. They also got this win without Bam Adebayo, which makes it that much worse for the Mavericks. The Mavs have now fallen to 37-41 and are a game behind the 10th-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder for that final play-in spot.

What Does The Future Hold For The Mavericks?

While there were some doubts on whether this Kyrie trade would work for the Mavs, no one expected things to be this bad. Trading away their best defender in Dorian Finney-Smith for Kyrie has made them absolutely woeful on that end of the floor and no amount of offense can make up for it.

Kyrie said they can’t be a championship team overnight and that this was a long-term process, but he probably would be considering his options at this point. Doncic, meanwhile, is already being linked to other teams and not many would blame him if he decides he wants out after this season. It was just under a year ago that the Mavs were in the Western Conference Finals and now, it looks like they are headed toward absolute disaster.
